The Premier League is set to introduce a major broadcast change from the 2025/26 season, allowing cameramen onto the pitch during matches to capture goal celebrations up close. This move aims to bring viewers closer to the action, following significant investments by broadcasters Sky and TNT.
Currently, Steadicam operators only enter the pitch at the final whistle. Under the new rules, they will be permitted to film celebrations while the game is ongoing. This will provide broadcasters with improved coverage of emotional and intimate moments that are often missed by fixed cameras.
In addition, radio commentators and pundits are expected to be allowed to film their reactions to goals and key moments from press boxes. This practice is already used by some broadcasters, with figures like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher sharing their live reactions on social media.
Sky Sports will broadcast a record minimum of 215 Premier League matches per season under a new four-year deal starting in 2025/26. Sky Group CEO Dana Strong said the company looks forward to delivering 'more engagement, entertainment, and innovation' to fans.
The changes reflect the Premier League's commitment to enhancing the viewing experience as broadcasters continue to invest heavily in rights and technology.
