Former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has suggested he could make a return to the Premier League after the 2026 World Cup. The Argentine, currently head coach of the United States national team, said there was no reason he could not take up another job in England once his contract expires next summer.
Speaking to TalkSport, Pochettino said: 'Maybe it's possible, yes. My challenge for the future is the World Cup and being now focused on the USA national team, maybe I come back one day to the Premier League.' He has won 11 of his 20 matches in charge of the USMNT, with his contract due to end after the tournament, which the United States will host.
Pochettino also hinted at unfinished business with Tottenham, where he came close to winning the Premier League and Champions League. 'We were so close with Tottenham to winning the Premier League and the Champions League. Tottenham is a club that deserves these types of titles,' he said. 'For me, the Premier League is the best league in the world, the most competitive. Why not have the possibility again to challenge and to be involved?'
A return to Chelsea, however, appears unlikely. Pochettino left the club by mutual agreement in 2024 after an apparent falling out with the hierarchy, and was replaced by Enzo Maresca. He said: 'Chelsea is in a different project than it was in the past. I keep a very good relationship with the people, with players there. We split, but the relationship is good.'
Pochettino praised Chelsea's young talent and predicted they would challenge for top honours. 'They achieved very good things last season. They are involved in the Champions League and close to the top four. For sure they are going to be a team that is going to challenge for big things,' he added.
