A trading card company has offered the woman dubbed 'Karen' £4,000 for the Philadelphia Phillies home run ball she controversially took from a father, but with a catch: she must autograph it 'I'm sorry'. The offer comes after the woman harassed Drew Feltman into surrendering the ball he caught during a game against the Miami Marlins last Friday.
Feltman had intended to give the ball to his son Lincoln as an early 10th birthday present. However, a woman approached him, shouting 'that's my ball!' and he handed it over to de-escalate the situation. The incident was captured on camera and went viral, with the woman widely condemned.
Since then, the Marlins gifted Lincoln a goodie bag, and player Harrison Bader gave him a signed bat. Rumours that the woman was a teacher fired by a New Jersey school district were denied; the district joked that any of their staff would have caught the ball barehanded.
The card company's offer is firm, they said, aiming to reunite the ball with the young fan. Feltman said he wishes he had the ball for his son but is happy with how things turned out.
