Speculation that former Manchester United defender Phil Jones is set to join Wrexham as a player or coach has been firmly denied by the club. Rumours began after Jones was spotted watching Wrexham's 3-1 defeat to Queens Park Rangers alongside co-owner Ryan Reynolds at the Racecourse Ground last weekend.
Club director Shaun Harvey has confirmed that Jones was merely a guest of chief executive Michael Williamson, as they are neighbours. Harvey told the Fearless in Devotion podcast: 'Poor old Phil Jones came as a guest of Michael Williamson to the game, because they live very close together. If we had won that game on Saturday, nobody would have cared less that he was there.'
Jones, 33, left Manchester United in 2023 after 12 years and has since taken up a coaching role with the club's academy. He was a Premier League title winner under Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 but saw his career hampered by recurring injuries.
Wrexham have endured a difficult start to life in the Championship, picking up just four points from their opening five games, leaving them 21st in the table. Reports of talks over manager Phil Parkinson's future have also been dismissed by Harvey.
