Transfer speculation heats up
Guimaraes has been linked with a move to Arsenal, although the Premier League champions have yet to make a concrete bid. Reports over the weekend suggested talks could begin soon, but the two clubs remain apart on valuation. The 28-year-old is due to return for pre-season training on July 31 for the trip to La Manga, Spain.
Pardew's verdict
“It will be a massive loss for them,” Pardew said. “I think his love has gone. I can't see him staying there and being the same player, so I think it's going to be a question of as much money as possible. I think that's where the Newcastle board will sit.”
Newcastle's summer activity
Newcastle have already lost Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham. They have made four new signings: Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, and Aladji Bamba. Steur impressed on his first appearance in Saturday's pre-season friendly at Gateshead.
