Adrien Truffert scored his first goal for Bournemouth deep into stoppage time to snatch a dramatic 2-1 victory at St James' Park, extending the visitors' unbeaten Premier League run to a club-record 13 games and heaping further pressure on Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.
Howe has now lost four consecutive matches and has never beaten his former club in the Premier League. Newcastle remain 14th in the table, with their hopes of European qualification fading. The home side managed only one shot on target, scored by Will Osula after a Bournemouth error, and were booed off by frustrated fans.
Bournemouth took the lead in the 32nd minute when Marcus Tavernier turned in a low cross from Rayan after Sven Botman's lapse in concentration. Newcastle struggled to create chances and were fortunate not to fall further behind before half-time, as Evanilson missed from close range.
Howe introduced Bruno Guimarães from the bench despite medical advice against it, and the captain's arrival lifted the mood. Osula equalised in the 73rd minute after Evanilson's inadvertent challenge put him through, but Tino Livramento then went off with a hamstring injury. In the dying moments, Evanilson headed down Tavernier's cross for Truffert to tap in from six yards, sealing Bournemouth's win.
