Haaland fit for Liverpool vs Man City but Foden and Isak out

Erling Haaland is fit to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, but Phil Foden will miss the trip through suspension and Alexander Isak is sidelined with a thigh injury.

The Premier League fixture, with a 4.30pm kick-off, marks the first match for both sides since the verdict confirming City's guilt on 114 breaches of Premier League financial regulations. City are contesting the ruling, while Liverpool supporters are widely expected to make their views clear.

Both clubs won before the international break: Liverpool edged past Bournemouth 1-0, while City maintained a flawless winning run with a 5-3 triumph over Sunderland.

City's injury and suspension concerns

City have a relatively short injury list, with just one confirmed absentee for the fixture, though another player remains a doubt. Full-back Nico O'Reilly picked up a knock during England's Nations League defeat against Spain at the start of the break and returned to City for further assessment.

Foden is guaranteed to sit out the trip to Anfield, serving the third and final match of a three-game ban following his red card in last month's Manchester derby. The midfielder was dismissed after lashing out towards Bruno Fernandes.

Haaland ready for Anfield

Manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed Haaland will be fit to feature. Concerns had been raised over the Norwegian after he seemingly requested to be substituted during the second half of Norway's defeat against Portugal earlier this week.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Maresca said: "He's good. He went to Marbella, two, three days off, played golf, recovery, and ready for Anfield. He's good. Thank you."

Liverpool's absentees and returns

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has confirmed that striker Alexander Isak will be sidelined for the fixture after sustaining a thigh injury while on international duty, though he does not anticipate a lengthy absence for the Sweden international.

Isak will be absent alongside Cody Gakpo, who suffered a setback during his time with the Netherlands squad. "Gakpo has an ankle injury, a matter of him dealing with the pain," Iraola said.

The pair join longer-term injury casualties Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni on the sidelines. Ekitike remains on the road to recovery following an Achilles injury, while Bradley and Leoni are both recuperating from Anterior Cruciate Ligament ruptures.

Another player yet to feature this season is winger Federico Chiesa. Although a return appears to be on the horizon, the fixture against City may arrive too early for the Italian.

On a more positive note, Iraola has dismissed any concerns over defender Jeremy Jacquet's fitness. "I am happy for him personally, debut with France, that is always tough," he said. "He played well, he should be happy but has a long way to go. He is fit and ready to go. He will be fine. We need to train tomorrow."
