Norway Winger Schjelderup Given Suspended Sentence for Sharing Illegal Video

Norwegian international footballer Andreas Schjelderup has been handed a suspended prison sentence after being found guilty of sharing a sexual video involving two under-18 boys. The 21-year-old winger, who currently plays for Portuguese club Benfica, admitted the offence in a Copenhagen court on Wednesday.

Schjelderup told the court he received the 27-second clip on Snapchat and forwarded it to a group chat of four friends. He said he realised within seconds that the individuals in the video were under 18 and quickly deleted it. 'As I forwarded it to my friends, I quickly realised that it was illegal and rapidly deleted the video,' he stated.

Judge Mathias Eike imposed a two-week suspended sentence, meaning Schjelderup will only serve jail time if convicted of another crime within the next 12 months. The prosecutor had sought at least 20 days in prison. Schjelderup's lawyer, Anders Nemeth, said the defence would consider an appeal.

The incident occurred while Schjelderup was playing for Danish club FC Nordsjaelland last year. He later apologised on Instagram, calling it 'a stupid mistake'. Despite the case, Schjelderup was an unused substitute as Norway qualified for the 2026 World Cup with a 4-1 win over Italy on Sunday.
