Aryna Sabalenka took a break in Mykonos to recover from a challenging clay and grass season, following her fourth-round exit at Wimbledon. The world No. 1 shared her holiday on Instagram, including boat trips, sunset dinners, and time with her fiancé and puppy.
Struggles on Clay and Grass
Sabalenka faced tough defeats earlier in the season, including a bagel in the French Open quarter-finals against Diana Shnaider, and another three-set loss to Jessica Pegula in Berlin. After Wimbledon, she joked about wanting to "get completely drunk, forget about tennis, and try to get in better shape."
Recharging in Greece
The four-time Major champion posted four photo dumps from her Greek holiday, captioning the last one: "Already missing my favourite place." She spent time with her fiancé, Georgios Franguilis, and their puppy, Ash.
Upon arriving in Toronto for the Canadian Open, Sabalenka said the rest was "much needed," noting that she "suffered during the summer swing" both physically and mentally. She added that after Mykonos, she felt better within a week and was eager to return to court.
Hard-Court Hopes
Sabalenka has high hopes for the North American hard-court swing, having won the US Open in 2024 and 2025, and completed the 'Sunshine Double' this year. She expressed optimism about returning to basics, saying, "I really hope it's going to work out well on the hard court again."
The Canadian Open is one of four WTA 1000 events she has never won. She reached the quarter-finals last year in Montreal, losing to Amanda Anisimova, and her best result was a semi-final appearance in 2021.
