Jack Nicklaus accidentally injured Trevor Immelman at the Masters Champions Dinner, leaving the 2008 winner with a sore foot. The incident occurred as Rory McIlroy hosted golf's most exclusive dinner on Tuesday, celebrating his career Grand Slam victory last year.
Sir Nick Faldo, a three-time Masters champion, recounted the mishap in an Instagram video. He said the 86-year-old Nicklaus, using a cane with four claws on the bottom, unknowingly placed it on Immelman's foot. 'He doesn't realise he's put the claw on Trevor Immelman's foot and, so while he's leaning on it Trevor's going [in a pained voice], "Oh, how are you, Jack? How are you feeling?" So poor Trevor's walking with a limp today,' Faldo said.
Despite the awkward moment, the dinner received rave reviews. Faldo praised the food, calling it 'very nice' and 'great.' He also highlighted a special moment when McIlroy, Nicklaus, and Gary Player were photographed together as the only Grand Slam winners present. Jordan Spieth, the 2015 champion, described the wagyu fillet mignon as his favourite dish, adding, 'The food was incredible. It's one of the best dinners that we've had.'
Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley also commended McIlroy, stating, 'Rory was a wonderful host at last night's Masters Club Dinner. That evening always is a special occasion, but especially when we celebrate a first-time champion. I should say that, like his golf game, Rory's menu and wine selection were world-class.'
