Sherlock Aims to Solve Newcastle Handicap
At Newcastle, the Friday Night Live season finale airs live on ITV4, featuring Newsboy's top selection, Sherlock, in the SBK: No Casino Just Sports Handicap (Div II) at 6.30 pm. Trained by Kevin Ryan, this son of Invincible Spirit had a frustrating start to his career, failing to win in his first 19 outings over seven furlongs or a mile.
However, a recent switch to five furlongs at Gosforth Park proved transformative. As a 6-1 chance, ridden by Kevin Stott, Sherlock surged down the outside to defeat Azucena by a length and three-quarters. Newsboy believes that stepping up to six furlongs is the logical next move, and despite a 6lb weight rise, the horse is poised for another strong performance.
Forglen Expected to Shine at Lingfield
Over at Lingfield Park, Forglen is the horse to beat in the No Casino Just Sports Handicap (Div II) at 5.17 pm. This five-year-old, under the care of William Stone, has shown significant improvement in 2026, particularly over staying distances. His recent form includes a course and distance win in January, followed by a second at Southwell and victories at Wolverhampton and Rolleston.
Despite a 3lb higher mark after a half-length triumph over Nymphaea two weeks ago, Forglen, partnered by Ryan Kavanagh, is expected to deliver another competitive run. Newsboy rates him as a solid choice for the race.
