Newcastle United have rejected Liverpool's opening £100million offer for striker Alexander Isak, with the club insisting the Swedish international is not for sale. The bid was received by Newcastle's operational team in Seoul, but the response was swift: Isak remains a Newcastle player.
Sources indicate that Newcastle have no desire to sell Isak, a message relayed clearly to Liverpool. The club may consider a deal at £150m, but would then face a race against time to find a suitable replacement. Head coach Eddie Howe has consistently stated Isak is not for sale, telling Chronicle Live: "He is still our player. He's contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. My wish is that he stays."
Isak has been training in Spain this week at his former club Real Sociedad, amid claims of a thigh injury. Newcastle are aware of his whereabouts and expect him back at Benton next week. Real Sociedad are due 10% of any profit should Isak be sold; Newcastle signed him for £63m in 2022.
Teammate Anthony Gordon commented on the situation: "For Alex, I feel for him too. It's difficult. People forget you're a human-being in that scenario. He will be going through a lot. The club is going through a lot. I hope everyone gets what they want in the end."
