Gary Neville criticised Cole Palmer for 'losing his head' after the Chelsea playmaker was sent off in a 2-0 defeat to Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.
Spurs secured only their second win at Chelsea's home ground in 36 years, with a dominant performance in west London. Stand-in goalkeeper Mike Penders punched the ball into his own net to give Tottenham the lead, before Mathys Tel sealed the win with a solo effort five minutes from full-time.
Palmer's red card
Seven minutes before the opening goal, Palmer was booked after charging into Mateus Fernandes, who had been penalised for handball moments earlier. Fernandes handled the ball to stop Palmer bursting past him and was still on the ground as Palmer made contact, with the Chelsea man lucky to avoid a straight red.
Ten minutes later, Palmer was shown a second yellow card by referee Chris Kavanagh after catching Conor Gallagher.
'Cole Palmer has lost his head,' Neville said on co-commentary for Sky Sports. 'To do that five minutes after the challenge on Fernandes is just silly.'
'He sticks his studs in on him, he knows exactly what he's doing. It's not a good challenge. It is naughty, very naughty. He's experienced enough to know.'
Neville's verdict on first incident
Neville felt Palmer should have been sent off for the first challenge on Fernandes.
'Why has Palmer done that? I'm not sure why he reacts,' he said. 'Fernandes has handballed it and it's a clear yellow card. Palmer's reaction looks silly. He's asking for trouble.'
Neville also believed Morgan Rogers should have been dismissed for a reckless challenge on Gallagher late in the game.
'I think that's a red. I do,' Neville said. 'He's absolutely wellied him with no intent. That's ludicrous from Rogers. They have lost it. Xabi Alonso needs to get them off.'
