Gary Neville has attributed Arsenal's Premier League title failure to a lack of mentality, following their 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest which confirmed Manchester City as champions. The Gunners took only nine points from their final seven games, squandering a commanding lead in the title race.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, Neville highlighted a pattern of late-season collapses, noting that Arsenal also missed out on a top-four spot last season after a poor run. He pointed to statistics showing Arsenal have the lowest points tally in the last ten games of any top-three finisher in Premier League history.
Neville argued that Mikel Arteta must address this mental fragility and lack of experience in crunch moments. He said that if Arsenal had performed better in the final ten games of both seasons, they would have secured Champions League football last year and could have won the title this year.
Despite his criticism, Neville praised Arsenal's overall season, selecting Martin Odegaard as his young player of the season. He included Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and William Saliba in his team of the season, while co-pundit Jamie Carragher only chose Odegaard and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
