Staff members from Arsenal and Aston Villa were involved in a physical altercation in the stands following Emiliano Martinez's own goal during Saturday's Premier League match, according to reports. The incident occurred after a thunderbolt strike from Jorginho deflected off Martinez's head and into the net, giving Arsenal a 3-2 lead.
The Telegraph reports that analysts from both sides were involved in the clash, which 'briefly turned physical'. Victor Manas, Aston Villa's data and video analyst, was said to be involved, while Arsenal analyst Miguel Molina reportedly left the press box to calm the situation.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the club would investigate the matter, stating: 'Like anything that happens in the stands, we will look at it, address it and take action if it's necessary.' The Gunners went on to win 4-2 after Gabriel Martinelli scored an empty-net goal in stoppage time, following Martinez's decision to go up for a corner.
The victory saw Arsenal return to the top of the Premier League table, with Arteta praising his side's character and resilience. 'We showed a lot of character, resilience to get back twice in the game and then winning it,' he said. 'In the second half, we overplayed them, we created chance after chance, we dominated absolutely the game and we needed a magic moment and Jorginho produced it.'
