One person has died and another suffered life-changing injuries in a rail incident near Eaglescliffe, which police have deemed non-suspicious.

Emergency Response

Emergency services were called to the scene near Eaglescliffe station at 10.16pm on Tuesday, July 28. British Transport Police, North East Ambulance Service, and the Great North Air Ambulance all responded, with Cleveland Fire Brigade also in attendance.

An inquiry was conducted into the circumstances preceding the incident on the line running parallel to Marlborough Road. British Transport Police has now confirmed the occurrence has been deemed non-suspicious.

Ambulance Service Statement

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service stated: "We were called to an incident on the train line near Eaglescliffe station shortly before 10.20pm on 28 July. We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a duty officer, a clinical team leader and were supported by the Great North Air Ambulance medical car. One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital."

"While at the scene, we were alerted to a person unwell on the train, and we assisted the British Transport Police in helping them and two other passengers alight the train. They did not require treatment."
