Trabzonspor are reportedly interested in signing Darwin Nunez after reaching an agreement with his former Liverpool team-mate Mohamed Salah.
The 34-year-old Salah became a free agent at the end of last season after leaving Anfield, with numerous clubs keen on securing his signature.
A number of Saudi Pro League and MLS clubs were strongly linked, but remaining in Europe appeared to be a priority. Although not the team many expected, Salah has chosen to join Trabzonspor.
Salah's Arrival and Nunez Links
The Turkish club issued a statement on Tuesday evening confirming they were in transfer talks with Salah and that he would arrive in Trabzon the following day. Salah has since arrived in the city and is expected to sign a two-year contract.
It appears Trabzonspor are not done with attacking signings, as Spor Depor journalist Resat Can Ozbudak stated that the club "has increased its pressure regarding Darwin Nunez".
Nunez's Challenging Year
The last 12 months have been challenging for Nunez following his transfer from Liverpool to Al Hilal. With other big signings made, he managed only 24 Saudi Pro League appearances, with none coming between February and May as he was ineligible.
That resulted in him arriving at the World Cup with Uruguay lacking match sharpness, and the South American nation went on to exit the tournament during the group stages.
The 27-year-old is facing a crossroads in his career, with a move to Turkiye an option. Besiktas, who were in talks for Salah, are also a potential destination for the striker.
Liverpool Transfer Context
There were shock links over a return to Liverpool, but those were swiftly dismissed, with Andoni Iraola's side instead looking at wingers.
Yan Diomande was their top target, but his preference was to join Paris Saint-Germain from RB Leipzig. Real Madrid later emerged as frontrunners for his signature.
