Man Utd's Tyler Fletcher Gets Surprise World Cup Call-Up

Manchester United youngster Tyler Fletcher has been called up to Scotland's World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Billy Gilmour. The Napoli midfielder suffered a knee injury in the first half of Saturday's friendly against Curacao, ruling him out of the tournament.

Fletcher made his senior Scotland debut in that match and has now been selected by manager Steve Clarke to fill the gap. The 18-year-old was among several players considered, including Rangers' Conor Barron, Andy Irving of Sparta Prague, and Udinese's Lennon Miller.

Clarke said after the Curacao game: 'Those three are on standby, and obviously Tyler joined us this week. He's trained well this week, so he's a little bit closer than the other three, but I'd need to have a big discussion with my staff and decide the best way to go.' The Scottish FA later confirmed Fletcher's inclusion.

Fletcher, son of former Scotland captain Darren Fletcher, has impressed for United's Under-18s and made his Premier League debut against Tottenham in February. He also featured against Brighton on the final day of the season and won the Denzil Haroun Player of the Year Award.

Scotland begin their World Cup campaign against Haiti on June 14, with further group matches against Brazil and Morocco.
