Mason Mount has been ruled out for up to a month after suffering a calf injury, compounding a difficult first season at Manchester United. The 24-year-old midfielder, who joined for £55 million from Chelsea in the summer, has yet to score for the club and has managed only one assist in all competitions.
Mount will miss Sunday's Premier League trip to Everton and the crucial Champions League match against Galatasaray, where United need a win to keep their campaign alive. His availability for subsequent fixtures against Newcastle, Chelsea, Bournemouth, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, and West Ham is also in doubt.
This latest setback adds to manager Erik ten Hag's injury crisis, with Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo, and Tyrell Malacia all sidelined. Rasmus Hojlund and Jonny Evans are doubts for the Everton match, while Marcus Rashford is suspended for the Galatasaray trip.
Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov criticised Mount's performances, saying: 'He looks a bit lost from time to time... He was bought for big money which brings big expectations.' Berbatov urged Mount to 'step up and show the quality that we all know he has.'
