Ruben Amorim has insisted he will walk away from Manchester United only if the board and fans lose faith in him, but former Liverpool star Didi Hamann believes the club will have to sack the manager and pay off his contract instead.
Pressure on Amorim intensified after United lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday, leaving them trophyless this season. The defeat extended their winless run to eight games across all competitions.
Speaking after the match, Amorim said: 'I will not quit again. I am confident in my job. In this moment I need a little bit of faith.' However, Hamann dismissed the idea that Amorim would walk away, telling BettingLounge.co.uk: 'Walking out on Manchester United would mean Ruben Amorim forfeits three years of wages and I don’t think we will see a manager do that. If they want to get rid of them, they're probably going to sack him.'
Hamann added that Amorim may be running out of messages for a struggling squad, saying: 'If you get beat every week, sometimes you run out of things to say.' Since taking over in November 2024, United have dropped to 16th in the Premier League and been eliminated from three cup competitions.
Despite the poor run, captain Bruno Fernandes has backed Amorim, stating: 'We all agree that he's the right man.'
