Manchester United left-back Harry Amass is reportedly contemplating a January move to Stoke City. The 18-year-old, currently on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, could trade a relegation battle for a promotion push with the Potters.
Amass joined United from Watford in 2023 and made his debut under Ruben Amorim in March. He made five Premier League appearances last term but was allowed to move to Hillsborough for first-team experience. He recently reacted to Amorim’s comments that he was “struggling”, posting a photo with Wednesday’s player of the month award before deleting it after clarification the remark referred to the Owls’ league position.
Sheffield Wednesday have been hit with two separate points deductions, leaving them 32 points from safety with relegation all but certain. Despite their plight, Amass has impressed, attracting interest from multiple clubs. According to The Sun, Stoke have emerged as frontrunners after a 12-way fight for his signature.
United will not recall the defender, but Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen remains hopeful. “There is a dialogue between the clubs and the agent, so I really hope we can finalise something soon,” Pedersen said. “We would love to keep him. He has done really, really well.”
If Amass joins Stoke, he would link up with a team boasting the Championship’s best defensive record (23 goals conceded) and sitting ninth, just three points off the play-offs. It is their first full season under Mark Robins.
