Manchester United's Premier League match against Bournemouth is currently set to go ahead despite the ongoing threat of Storm Boelo, but fans have been warned that travel times may take longer.
A yellow weather warning is in place across nearby Merseyside until 11pm on Sunday, with the Met Office forecasting heavy rain and strengthening winds.
Travel disruption for supporters
Thousands of fans travelling to Old Trafford have been warned of travel disruption because of tram cancellations. Improvement works mean no trams will run on the Altrincham, Trafford Park and Eccles lines. Services on the Airport and East Didsbury lines will also be reduced.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) said alternative transport options would be available, including replacement buses and dedicated shuttle services operating before and after the match.
Supporters travelling from Manchester Airport or East Didsbury have been advised to use tram services to and from Firswood. A TfGM spokesperson urged fans to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.
"We suggest departing an hour earlier than normal to ensure you arrive at the ground on time," they said.
Match status and safety considerations
The match remains scheduled to go ahead, but officials will need to consider supporter safety and the potential impact of the weather around Old Trafford before deciding whether it is safe to proceed.
Met Office update on Sunday morning
The Met Office's latest forecast suggests the worst of Storm Boelo is moving away from Manchester, although strong winds will continue across northern parts of the UK.
Updated at 4am on Sunday, the five-day forecast said: "Strong winds continue as Storm Boelo slowly clears away".
Showers and longer spells of rain are expected mainly across Scotland and Northern Ireland, while other areas should see some sunshine. Scattered showers may develop in western and northern parts of the country, with temperatures expected to remain around average for late October.
