The Ospreys marked their long-awaited return to a redeveloped St Helen’s with a convincing 31-14 victory over the Dragons, watched by a sell-out crowd of 5,592 in Swansea.
The match took place on a wet and windy night as Storm Boelo swept across the city, but the weather did little to dampen the occasion as the club began a new chapter on home soil.
A historic homecoming
It has been a long road back to St Helen’s for the Ospreys, with plenty of twists and turns along the way. The wait is finally over, with the club back at the iconic ground for the first time since its redevelopment.
Swansea Council leader Rob Stewart blew a ceremonial whistle to mark the start of the historic first match at the newly developed venue.
Fans brave the elements
Supporters turned out in force, packing the stands and the uncovered terrace despite the stormy conditions. Children and adults alike enjoyed the night, even as they got very wet.
Ozzy the Ospreys mascot was on hand to entertain the crowd, and the fans were in full voice throughout the game as the Ospreys sealed a memorable win.
The victory marked a fitting return for the region's rugby team, with the redeveloped St Helen’s now set to host the Ospreys for future fixtures.
