Man Utd Transfer Plan for Casemiro and Maguire Departures

Manchester United Chiefs Reach Transfer Agreement Amid Exit Plans

Manchester United have drawn up a detailed contingency transfer plan as the club prepares for the potential departures of both Casemiro and Harry Maguire this summer. With contracts set to expire, United officials are in agreement on the need to strengthen key areas, including midfield and defence, to maintain competitiveness.

Midfield Reinforcements Targeted

Casemiro, 34, announced in January that he will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the season. His exit will leave United with just two recognised first-team central midfielders: Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo. In response, club officials have agreed to sign two midfielders, with a shortlist including Premier League talents.

According to reports, United are monitoring several players:

  • Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United
  • Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace
  • Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest
  • Carlos Baleba from Brighton
  • Alex Scott of Bournemouth

Wharton is keen to join a Champions League club, and United currently hold third place, six points clear of Chelsea. However, Manchester City are frontrunners for Anderson, potentially outbidding United on salary. Baleba, a target last summer, has had a disappointing season at Brighton, while Scott has impressed, attracting interest from Tottenham and Manchester City.

Casemiro's Impact and Departure

Casemiro has been a standout performer, scoring his seventh goal of the season in a recent 3-1 win against Aston Villa. Fans chanted for him to stay, but interim head coach Michael Carrick all but dismissed the idea of a contract extension. Carrick praised Casemiro's influence but emphasised that players come and go, and the squad balance must be addressed with new signings.

Maguire's Contract Situation

Harry Maguire's contract also expires this summer, though talks are ongoing for a renewal. The 33-year-old England star has been ever-present since Carrick's appointment in mid-January, filling in for injured defenders Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt. Maguire has shone, earning a potential England recall, but a pay cut from his £180,000-a-week wages may be required for a new deal.

If Maguire leaves, United will explore the centre-back market to bolster their defensive options. This is part of a broader plan to make four major signings, including a left-sided winger and a backup goalkeeper. Patrick Dorgu, recovering from injury, might be viewed as a winger, prompting a search for a left-back, especially with Luke Shaw's contract up next summer.

Broader Transfer Agenda

United's summer agenda includes securing a backup goalkeeper, with Senne Lammens as No.1 and Altay Bayindir as No.2, while Andre Onana is on loan at Trabzonspor. The club aims to strengthen multiple positions to ensure depth and quality for the upcoming season.

This strategic planning underscores United's proactive approach to squad management, as they navigate the challenges of player exits and aim to build a competitive team for future campaigns.
