Andre Onana's Manchester United Future Decided as Club Seeks Permanent Exit

Manchester United have firmly decided on the future of goalkeeper Andre Onana, with the club determined to move him on permanently despite his expressed desire to return to Old Trafford. The Cameroonian shot-stopper is currently on a season-long loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor, which began last summer after a challenging period with the Red Devils.

Onana's Wish to Revive United Career Clashes with Club Plans

Once his loan agreement with Trabzonspor expires, Onana will have two years remaining on his Manchester United contract. He has openly stated his intention to return and compete with current goalkeeper Senne Lammens for the number one position. However, club officials hold a contrasting view, as reported by Mail Online. United have no plans to reintegrate Onana and aim to sell him to further reduce their wage bill.

Representatives for Onana are set to hold talks with Manchester United in the near future, but another exit—whether permanent or another loan—is considered the most probable outcome. The club remains keen to recoup a significant portion of the £47.2 million they paid for his signature in 2023.

Trabzonspor's Financial Realities and Onana's Preferences

Trabzonspor vice-president Zeyyat Kafkas recently acknowledged that the club cannot afford the hefty fee demanded by Manchester United, which ranges between €45-50 million. He explained that this information was shared transparently with the community, reflecting Trabzonspor's financial constraints. Kafkas noted that Onana's thinking aligns with continuing at a European club if not in England, a sentiment echoed by his family.

Trabzonspor head coach Fatih Tekke also commented on the situation, praising Onana's positivity and character despite some inconsistent performances. "He feels very comfortable here," Tekke said, "but he will make his own decision about his future." This highlights the personal agency Onana retains in determining his next steps.

Performance and Clean Sheet Record at Trabzonspor

During his loan spell, Onana has made 25 appearances for Trabzonspor this season. However, his defensive contributions have been limited, with only six clean sheets kept in those matches. This statistic may influence both Manchester United's valuation and potential suitors' interest in the goalkeeper.

The club's strategy to offload Onana underscores a broader effort to streamline their squad and finances, even as the player himself harbours hopes of a Premier League comeback. The upcoming negotiations will be crucial in shaping whether Onana secures a permanent move elsewhere or faces another temporary departure.
