Manchester United have sacked head coach Ruben Amorim after a breakdown in relations with the club's leadership, following a 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday. The club confirmed the decision on Monday, with U18s coach Darren Fletcher taking interim charge.
Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024, led United to the Europa League final last season but finished 15th in the Premier League. This term, the team sits sixth after 20 games, with Amorim recording the worst win ratio (32%) of any United manager in the Premier League era.
After the Leeds match, Amorim hinted at tensions, stating he intended to leave in 18 months. 'I came here to be the manager, not the coach,' he said. 'I will do my job until another guy comes to replace me.' The club's statement thanked Amorim for his contribution and wished him well.
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the bookmakers' favourite to become permanent manager, though The Athletic reports a permanent appointment is likely to wait until the summer, with Fletcher potentially in charge until the end of the season.
