Carlos Baleba has responded to ongoing transfer speculation linking him with Manchester United by posting on social media after starting for Brighton in their 1-1 draw with Fulham on Saturday. The 21-year-old midfielder, who has been identified by United as a top target, shared photos from the match with the caption: "Just me doing the thing I love most. Had fun playing at home with the boys. Nothing new here, just my number and a haircut."
Baleba's comment appears to echo remarks made by Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler before the game, who noted that the only change in the player had been his hairstyle. Hurzeler stated: "I am very, very confident [Baleba will stay]. I didn't see any change, he's only changed his hair. He's enjoying being a Brighton player."
Manchester United have already spent over £200 million this summer on Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha, but remain keen to strengthen their midfield. However, they are unwilling to meet Brighton's £120 million valuation of Baleba, and reports suggest that the player may be prepared to wait until next summer for a move.
United manager Ruben Amorim addressed the speculation ahead of his side's opening match against Arsenal, expressing satisfaction with his current options. "I'm really happy with our players," he said. "We have different players for that position... Mason Mount is a player that I think can play in that position."
