Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued a rallying cry to his remaining players, demanding they fill the void left by three key departures for the African Cup of Nations.
Triple Blow for Red Devils Ahead of Villa Park Trip
The Red Devils travel to face Aston Villa on Sunday, 20th December 2025, but will be without a trio of summer signings. Winger Bryan Mbeumo has joined the Cameroon squad, forward Amad is with Ivory Coast, and defender Noussair Mazraoui has linked up with Morocco.
Speaking to MUTV ahead of the Premier League fixture, Amorim acknowledged the challenge but emphasised the need for others to seize their opportunity. "We need to play a little bit different," the Portuguese coach admitted. "We lost some one-against-one. We will see but we'll be ready for the game."
"Opportunities for Other Players" - Amorim's Rallying Cry
Amorim stressed that while the absences are significant, the squad has the depth to cope. "Yes [we have lost Amad and Mbeumo] and also Nous," he confirmed. "So Nous is also really important for us but, when one player is out, we have opportunities for other players."
He pointed to past experiences as a source of confidence. "Last year, in some games, we managed to win, especially in Europe, without Amad. Bryan was not here, so we already have those moments of difficulty. So we are ready, more than ready, to cope with that."
Sesko Return Offers Vital Boost for United
In more positive news, striker Benjamin Sesko is back in contention after a knee injury sidelined him for four matches. The Slovenian made a substitute appearance in the recent draw with Bournemouth.
Amorim highlighted the unique qualities Sesko brings to the attack. "I think he is a different type of striker," he said. "The only one in that part because Josh [Zirkzee] is more like a no.9 and 10 at the same time... Ben is a guy who likes to be in the box. He makes a lot of runs."
"Of course, if you look at him, you can feel that he has so much more to give," Amorim added. "He is improving the physicality, he was one month without playing, but he is ready and he is going to help us."
The match at Villa Park presents a chance for United to potentially break into the Premier League's top four. They then face a quick turnaround with a Boxing Day clash against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
