Man Utd fan's viral haircut vow delayed after West Ham draw

A Manchester United fan who vowed not to cut his hair until the team won five consecutive matches has seen his challenge extended after a 1-1 draw with West Ham United. Frank Ilett, known online as the 'United Strand', had been 493 days without a haircut after United’s wins against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and Tottenham Hotspur set up a potential finale at the London Stadium.

Ilett, who streams on Kick, watched Tomas Soucek put West Ham ahead in the 50th minute. Benjamin Sesko equalised deep into stoppage time, but the draw meant United’s winning streak ended at four, resetting Ilett’s challenge. He must now wait for United to win their next five matches – against Everton, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Bournemouth – before he can visit the barbers.

Speaking after the match, Ilett said: 'It's tough. It's tough to think, really. We go again, I guess. The main positive is that the hair gets a bit longer for the Little Princess Trust and I can donate it.' He added: 'But we keep going, we keep committed. See you on Day 500.'

The draw also marked the first time interim manager Michael Carrick has failed to win a match since taking charge. United’s next fixture is away to Everton on February 23.
