Manchester United have completed the signing of winger Isaac Konde from Liverpool, with the 16-year-old joining the club's academy. The transfer was confirmed during the international break as manager Michael Carrick looks to regroup following a disappointing start to the season.
Konde completes switch from Liverpool
United have officially announced the capture of Konde, who has switched from Liverpool. The teenager will join up with his new club's academy with hopes of breaking into the first team, just as JJ Gabriel appears poised to depart, reports the Mirror.
The arrangement is not completely finalised yet, though, with The Athletic reporting Liverpool are pursuing millions in compensation. Konde will reportedly receive professional terms when he turns 17 in October but has penned a scholar agreement for now.
A club statement read: "Manchester United have agreed the signing of winger Isaac Konde. The talented youngster has joined after leaving Liverpool."
"The 16-year-old had his first taste of Under-18 football at Liverpool, featuring regularly towards the end of the 2025/26 campaign. Everyone at the club would like to welcome Isaac to United and wish him the very best of luck."
Konde is a versatile winger who can operate down either flank. He managed one assist in six outings for Liverpool's under-18s last term, where he gained increased involvement towards the campaign's conclusion.
United urged to raid City after verdict
The transfer continues United's recent pattern of snapping up promising youngsters from rival clubs. Only last week, the club announced the signings of central midfielders David Eze and Karim Cassim following their departures from rivals Manchester City.
That might not prove to be United's final acquisition from City, with Gabriel Agbonlahor suggesting Carrick could target their neighbours following recent developments. The football world remains stunned by news that City were found guilty on 114 of their 115 charges for Premier League spending violations.
Currently, no announcement has been made regarding City's sanctions or whether the club plans to appeal. Nevertheless, a mass departure of players is anticipated at the Etihad should their punishment be expulsion from the Premier League or a points deduction that triggers relegation.
If that's the case, Agbonlahor has suggested United snap up two specific talents. Speaking on talkSPORT when asked which players United should target from their local rivals, Agbonlahor stated: "[Gianluigi] Donnarumma – I have been watching [Senne] Lammens."
"Poor at the World Cup, cost Belgium in that game, and I think he has not been great this season. Look at the own goal – Lisandro Martinez against Fulham. He has got to be better with that save. I am not convinced in him."
"I will say Donnarumma to Manchester United. Manchester United will go and nick their number one goalkeeper."
He went on to say: "Elliot Anderson – Manchester United wanted you, now you go there. Manchester United – you wanted Elliot Anderson, go and get him for maybe half the price."
Potential transfer targets assessed
The acquisition of Anderson, who made a £116m switch from Nottingham Forest in the summer, seems less probable given United's summer was largely focused on bolstering their midfield.
However, many fans might relish the prospect of seeing a keeper of Donnarumma's stature at the club following his £26m transfer from PSG last year.
