Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel is poised to leave the Bundesliga this month, with a host of Premier League clubs monitoring his situation. The 19-year-old Frenchman has struggled for game time under Vincent Kompany and is now considering a move to secure regular first-team football.
Arsenal, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are all understood to be interested in Tel. According to reports, he is waiting to see if Arsenal or Manchester United make formal approaches before deciding his next step. Tottenham's technical director Johan Lange has already flown to Germany for talks, but Tel's decision will likely hinge on which club can offer him the most playing time.
Tel has made only 14 appearances this season without scoring, falling behind the likes of Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise in the pecking order at the Allianz Arena. After starting Wednesday’s Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava, he was substituted in the 62nd minute and later waved to fans, handing his coat to a supporter.
Bayern director Max Eberl confirmed Tel's desire to leave, stating: “Yes, Mathys Tel wants to go. Loan or permanent? We will assess all the options. I've rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.” Kompany added that Tel’s start was “simply deserved” but insisted his decision was not influenced by transfer speculation.
