John Fury has confirmed he will not be in attendance for his son Tyson's fight with Anthony Joshua later this year. The 'Gypsy King' and long-time rival Joshua are set to settle their decade-long feud on December 11 in Cardiff.
Earlier this year, Fury Snr revealed that he and son Tyson were no longer on speaking terms. The former bare knuckle boxer stated his relationship with his son was "destroyed completely" and said the two-time world champion wants nothing to do with him. However, they have seemingly settled their differences, with their relationship improving over the last few months.
Father's decision to stay away
Despite the improved relationship, Fury Snr still has no desire to make the journey to Cardiff for the highly-anticipated fight. The 61-year-old, who was absent from the launch press conference last week, has long called for his son to hang up the gloves once and for all.
In a recent interview with Playbook Boxing, Fury Snr explained exactly why he will not be travelling to the Welsh capital on December 11. "I'll be honest with you, no. No I won't be attending," he admitted. "Let me tell you, you have more chance of seeing a cow fly than me bothering with it. I don't like the people in it, and I know accidents can happen. I'm not involved, so I don't want to go to the fight. I'll be doing what his mother does. I'll wait for somebody to tell me who wins the fight. I don't need validation to go to a boxing match and sit there and be an absolute spare p**** at the wedding."
Health concerns for both fighters
Fury Snr believes both his son and Joshua are putting their health at risk and has labelled the dust-up as 'dangerous' for the pair. He added: "No I'm not condoning it. There's no more I can do for Tyson. I look at him as a father with children, and if he gets brain damaged, it is worrying. If anything gets happen to him and he gets injured permanently, the money means nothing to you. These things can happen at their stage of their lives, it has become dangerous for him and Joshua. For me it is an accident waiting to happen. When you carrying on boxing too long, the inevitable could happen."
