Wirtz Admits Tough Start at Liverpool but Vows to Improve

Florian Wirtz has opened up about his early struggles at Liverpool, admitting that the £116million move from Bayer Leverkusen was a difficult transition. However, the Germany international believes he is now finding his feet and can become a key player for the Reds.

Speaking ahead of Liverpool's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Paris Saint-Germain, Wirtz acknowledged the pressure that came with his hefty price tag. 'I know that they paid a lot for me,' he told TNT Sports. 'I still think that I'm improving, it was a difficult start for me because I wanted to impact the team immediately.'

The 22-year-old has impressed during the international break, scoring twice and providing two assists in Germany's 4-3 win over Switzerland. He now hopes to carry that form into Liverpool's European campaign, with the first leg taking place in Paris.

Wirtz described the Champions League clash as the type of game he dreamed of when joining the club. 'These are the games you want to play as a player,' he said. 'We try everything to do a good game tomorrow and next week also at Anfield.'

Liverpool's season has been disappointing domestically, with a humiliating 4-0 FA Cup defeat to Manchester City ending their hopes of silverware. However, Wirtz remains confident that the team can progress in Europe despite the odds.
