Liverpool Pin Hopes on Tyler Morton as Next Harvey Elliott After Blackburn Loan

Liverpool are optimistic that Tyler Morton can follow in the footsteps of Harvey Elliott after the teenager was sent on loan to Blackburn Rovers. Morton, 19, has been allowed to leave Anfield for the season by Jurgen Klopp, who has high hopes for the academy graduate.

Elliott enjoyed a highly productive loan spell at Blackburn during the 2020-21 season, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists in 41 Championship appearances. He returned to Liverpool and made a strong start to the following campaign before a serious ankle injury curtailed his progress. Now fully fit, Elliott is expected to play a key role for the Reds this season.

Morton made nine senior appearances for Liverpool last season, including starts in the Champions League against Porto and AC Milan. Klopp has praised his football brain as 'absolutely sensational' and recently noted his impressive performances in training as a No. 8. However, competition for places at Anfield has led to his loan move to Blackburn.

Morton has revealed that Elliott played a part in his decision to join Rovers, saying: 'Speaking to Harvey and Leighton [Clarkson], they gave a real positive impression about the club and they persuaded me a bit more to come here.' Clarkson had an unsuccessful loan at Blackburn last season, but Liverpool hope Morton can emulate Elliott's success.

With several midfielders out of contract in 2023, including Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and James Milner, a midfield refresh is expected. Morton could become a key part of Liverpool's engine room if he takes his chance at Blackburn.
