Manchester United face a potential striker crisis after Benjamin Sesko picked up a knee injury during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Tottenham, but the club cannot recall Rasmus Hojlund from his loan at Napoli due to the terms of his deal.
Sesko, who came on as a substitute in the 58th minute, lasted only 30 minutes before being forced off following a tackle from Micky van de Ven. He received medical attention for a knee problem and headed straight down the tunnel. Manager Ruben Amorim said: 'We have to check. He had something in his knee, let's see.' When asked if it was serious, he added: 'I have no idea. Because it's the knee, we never know.'
United's options are limited as Hojlund, on loan at Napoli, cannot be recalled. The deal includes an option for Napoli to buy him permanently for £38 million, which becomes an obligation if they qualify for the Champions League. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed there is no recall clause, meaning United cannot bring him back in January.
Joshua Zirkzee was again on the bench against Spurs, with reports linking him with a return to Italy. Amorim acknowledged the club may need to explore the January market, saying: 'We have to check everything... if we can improve the team and try to prepare something that happened. Until then, we have to take the chance.'
