Liverpool Plot Swap Deal for Alexander Isak with Darwin Nunez

Former Newcastle United defender Stuart Pearce has suggested that Liverpool could propose a swap deal to sign Alexander Isak this summer, with Darwin Nunez moving in the opposite direction. The suggestion comes as Isak reportedly explores his options after informing Newcastle of his desire to leave.

Isak reported a thigh injury ahead of Newcastle's pre-season trip to Asia and remained at home. It later emerged that the striker had told the club he wanted to assess his options this summer, with Liverpool among the long-standing admirers.

Newcastle value Isak at around £150 million and have insisted he is not for sale. However, Pearce believes a swap involving Nunez could suit all parties. 'In my opinion, Nunez might be the one full of energy. He might just be the one that the new Newcastle fans take to,' Pearce told Chronicle Live.

Contract negotiations with Isak have reportedly seen Newcastle offer a £200,000-per-week package, which would make him the club's highest earner. Magpies manager Eddie Howe commented: 'He is still our player. He's contracted to us. We, to a degree, control what is next for him. My wish is that he stays, but that's not in my full control.'
