Liverpool are considering a record-breaking £120 million bid for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, but the Magpies have insisted the Swedish international is not for sale at any price. The Reds view Isak as their ideal centre-forward signing and have explored the possibility of a British record transfer, though Newcastle's refusal has forced them to shift focus elsewhere.
In an attempt to disrupt Newcastle's plans, Liverpool are reportedly trying to derail the club's move for Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike, with a £70 million deal nearing completion. However, sources suggest Liverpool have not abandoned their pursuit of Isak entirely and may revisit the deal in the next transfer window, possibly later this summer or next year.
Isak, 25, has become a cornerstone of Newcastle's attack since joining for a club-record £63 million in 2022. He has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances, including a career-best 27 in the 2024/25 season. His current contract runs until 2028, giving Newcastle significant leverage in negotiations, with reports suggesting a £150 million bid could be required to tempt them into selling.
While Isak is not actively pushing for a move, he is reportedly unhappy with his current £130,000-per-week wages, and salary talks have stalled. Liverpool are monitoring the situation closely, but with Newcastle holding firm and the Ekitike deal progressing, the Isak saga appears to be on hold for now.
This is not the first time Isak has been at the centre of a dramatic transfer chase. In 2017, he moved to Borussia Dortmund from AIK in a controversial £8.6 million deal, with then-manager Thomas Tuchel left furious at being kept out of the loop. Isak made just one senior appearance for Dortmund before a loan spell at Willem II reignited his career, leading to a move to Real Sociedad and eventually Newcastle.
