Liverpool suffer double injury blow ahead of Man City clash

Liverpool will be without star pair Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo for Sunday's Premier League clash with Manchester City at Anfield.

City head to Merseyside having won all five of their league matches so far this season. But since their last top-flight fixture three weeks ago, the Premier League released their core decision in the 115 charges case, finding City guilty of almost all the charges levied against them.

Appeal and reaction

The Blues are now appealing the decision and continue to insist they have done nothing wrong. The decision dominated the international break and Enzo Maresca's press conference on Friday morning.

The City boss was calm and composed in his responses and insists the players won't be impacted by the news as they prepare for Liverpool.

Injury details

They will face a Reds side shorn of two of their best attacking players this season with Isak and Gakpo, wanted by City in the summer, ruled out. They join Hugo Ekitike on the sidelines.

Gakpo has an ankle injury while Isak is absent with a thigh problem. Neither are long term but the issues will prevent the pair from facing City.

Iraola on charges

Iraola was also asked about City's charges, saying: "I think uncertainty is not good for anyone and anyone involved, but the process is ongoing and we have to patient like everyone else and see what happens at the end."
