Belgian striker Divock Origi is officially on the hunt for a new club after Italian giants AC Milan terminated his contract, leaving the former Liverpool forward as a free agent.
Anfield Cult Hero Seeks New Challenge
The 30-year-old forward, who has not featured for Milan since the 2022-23 season, saw his deal at the San Siro ripped up. Origi's last competitive appearance came in May 2024 during a loan spell with Premier League side Nottingham Forest, a move that proved largely disappointing. He managed to find the net just once in 22 appearances for the Midlands club.
Origi's legacy, however, is cemented at Anfield. Across seven seasons with Liverpool, he made 175 appearances and scored 41 goals. He secured legendary status with a series of crucial, iconic strikes. Most famously, he scored the second goal in Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Tottenham in the 2019 Champions League final in Madrid, helping secure the club's sixth European Cup.
Memorable Moments in Red
That same year, he was the two-goal hero in one of football's greatest ever comebacks, netting twice against Barcelona in the semi-final second leg at Anfield. He also endeared himself forever to the Kop with a last-gasp winner in a dramatic Merseyside derby against Everton in December 2018.
Origi originally joined Liverpool as a 19-year-old in a £10 million deal from French side Lille in June 2014. After his contract at Anfield expired in June 2022, he moved to AC Milan on a free transfer. His time in Italy yielded just two goals from 36 matches across all competitions.
What Next for the Belgian Forward?
Capped 32 times by Belgium, Origi now faces a critical juncture in his career. As a free agent, he can sign for a club outside the normal transfer windows. His proven pedigree in big moments, particularly in English football, will likely attract interest from various leagues as he aims to reignite a career that has stalled since his departure from Merseyside.
