Divock Origi, the former Liverpool striker, is set to become a free agent in January after agreeing to terminate his contract with AC Milan. The 30-year-old Belgian forward has struggled to make an impact since leaving Anfield in 2022, with only 36 appearances and two goals for the Italian side.
Origi’s move to Milan never worked out, and he was frozen out of the squad following a lacklustre loan spell at Nottingham Forest. The termination ends a difficult period for the player, who had been seeking a resolution for some time.
Despite his woes in Italy, Origi remains a cult hero at Liverpool thanks to several memorable goals during the Jurgen Klopp era. He scored a 96th-minute Merseyside derby winner in 2018 and played a key role in the Reds’ 2019 Champions League triumph, including the famous ‘corner taken quickly’ goal against Barcelona and the final goal against Tottenham.
Origi’s availability comes as Liverpool manager Arne Slot deals with an injury to striker Alexander Isak, who suffered a leg fracture during a 2-1 win over Tottenham. Slot confirmed the injury would keep Isak out for several months, adding: 'It's a big, big disappointment for him and for us.'
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will look to bring Origi back as a free agent or explore other options in the January transfer window. Slot declined to comment on transfer plans, focusing instead on upcoming matches.
