The Sweden international scored the opening goal before being forced off, with the club revealing on Monday that he underwent successful surgery on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture.
The £125m signing sustained the injury in a challenge by Micky van de Ven as he netted his third goal for the Reds. Isak required assistance to leave the pitch and subsequent MRI scans revealed the extent of the damage. Liverpool's statement added that his rehabilitation will continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no timeframe placed on his return.
Isak's time at Liverpool has been plagued by setbacks since his British record move on deadline day. He missed pre-season while forcing through his transfer from Newcastle, then suffered a groin injury in the Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt. His first Premier League goal came in November against West Ham, having scored earlier in the Carabao Cup against Southampton.
The injury leaves manager Arne Slot with limited attacking options. Cody Gakpo is also injured, while Mohamed Salah is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt. Additionally, Dominik Szoboszlai will miss Saturday's match against Wolves due to suspension after collecting five yellow cards this season.
