Galatasaray have lodged an official complaint with UEFA and are considering legal action after Noa Lang suffered a serious thumb injury during their Champions League defeat at Liverpool. The Dutch forward required surgery after his thumb became trapped in a gap between an advertising hoarding and a barrier at Anfield.
Lang, who came on as a substitute in the 76th minute of the 4-0 round of 16 second leg loss, needed oxygen as he left the pitch and was taken to hospital for an operation. The injury occurred in front of the Anfield Road Stand, with Liverpool and UEFA officials later seen inspecting the hoarding.
Galatasaray general secretary Eray Yazgan told Turkish outlet HTSport: 'After the match, we lodged a complaint with UEFA representatives. They conducted their investigation. UEFA will evaluate the issue. We are consulting with lawyers. We will submit our compensation claim to UEFA. We will request that our grievances regarding salaries be addressed.'
Yazgan added: 'If our request is not met, a lawsuit may be filed. Our priority is the health of our players.' The Turkish club are seeking compensation for the time Lang will spend sidelined recovering from the injury, which occurred as Liverpool advanced 4-1 on aggregate.
