Liverpool Prioritise Darwin Nunez Sale After Florian Wirtz Transfer

Liverpool are set to focus on selling Darwin Nunez after completing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, according to reports. The Reds are in negotiations to sign the German international in what could be a club-record transfer, with an opening bid of €100 million (£85 million) plus add-ons already submitted.

Leverkusen are holding out for more than £100 million for the 22-year-old, which would surpass the £85 million Liverpool paid Benfica for Nunez in 2022. Meanwhile, Jeremie Frimpong has agreed a £29.5 million move to Anfield on a five-year contract.

Manager Arne Slot has reportedly green-lighted Nunez's departure after the Uruguayan started only eight Premier League games this season, contributing seven goals and seven assists in 47 appearances. Atletico Madrid have been linked with a move for the striker.

Liverpool are keen to reinvest the funds in a new forward, with Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike among the targets. The 22-year-old Frenchman is valued at £84 million after scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in 48 games this season. Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Atletico's Julian Alvarez have also been monitored.

Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche admitted the club may be forced to sell Ekitike, saying: 'He's one of the most interesting strikers on the European market. Hugo has to decide that. If he decides otherwise, that's our motto: If a player develops faster than us, we let him go.'
