Kompany stable in hospital after Bayern Munich collapse

Vincent Kompany is stable in hospital after collapsing during Bayern Munich training on Friday, with club chief Max Eberl confirming the former Manchester City defender is on the mend but faces a long recovery.

Club Confirms Kompany's Condition

Eberl provided an update on the 40-year-old, stating: "The good news is: He's stable. I spoke with him last night, as well as with his wife. That was no pleasant moment for any of us; he collapsed on the pitch yesterday and will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days until everything has been checked and verified."

He added: "This once again shows that health is the most important thing in life - not football. Therefore, the best wishes for a speedy recovery from all of us go out to him; we at FC Bayern stand together."

Recovery Timeline Unclear

Eberl stressed that no timeframe has been set for Kompany's return to the sidelines, saying it would be "weeks" rather than days. "We need to figure out what it is, and then we'll discuss what recovery time means," he said. "We won't be talking about days, but weeks. We all understand that. And we have such a fantastic coaching staff, with Vinnie at its head."

Kompany had been watching Bayern's reserve team train when he collapsed and was taken to hospital. The manager had previously been unwell with a virus and missed the pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League draw with Arsenal.

Assistant Coach Steps In

Bayern assistant coach Aaron Danks confirmed he had spoken with Kompany at the hospital and insisted the team was in good hands. Danks said: "I explained to him that we would be having no football conversations. It was just checking in on his health and making sure he's OK. All the football operations are in our hands and we'll work together as a team to keep the club moving forward."

Eberl added that there is "absolutely no thought of changing anything" regarding the coaching staff, with the club giving Kompany all the time he needs to recover fully.
