Former Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has heaped praise on Luis Diaz following the winger's outstanding performances for Bayern Munich. The Colombian international left Anfield last summer and has since scored 26 goals with 21 assists in 48 appearances for the German champions this season.
Thiago, now assistant manager at Barcelona, told Sky Sport Deutschland: "They're having a spectacular season. I think they made the right call signing Luis. I know him from Liverpool. He's a fantastic player and person." The 35-year-old also commended Bayern coach Vincent Kompany for his work.
Diaz's output at Bayern marks a significant improvement on his Liverpool record of 41 goals and 23 assists in 148 games. Reds legend Steven Gerrard has previously stated that Liverpool miss Diaz on the left flank. Liverpool boss Arne Slot defended the decision to sell, citing the club's sustainable model and the substantial offer received for a 28-year-old.
Liverpool are expected to target wingers this summer, with Mohamed Salah set to leave at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Bayern have already secured the Bundesliga title and face Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal final, though they missed out on the Champions League final after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
