Harry Kane in Race to Make Real Madrid Clash After Injury on England Duty
Bayern Munich will be without their star striker after Kane picked up an ankle injury during the international window.
Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane is facing a tight race to be fit for the club’s highly anticipated Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, following an injury sustained while on international duty with England. The England captain was sidelined during his national team's 1-0 loss to Japan in a friendly at Wembley on Tuesday, after suffering the ankle issue in training.
Injury Details and Kompany's Update
Kane had already been rested for England's earlier 1-1 draw with Uruguay during the international break. Now, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has confirmed that Kane will not be available for Saturday's Bundesliga match against Freiburg. However, Kompany expressed optimism about the striker's potential availability for the upcoming European fixture.
In a press conference, Kompany stated: “Harry trained well until Sunday, then he felt something in his ankle while with the national team. That will have an impact on tomorrow's game - he won't be available. Nevertheless, I'm positive about Tuesday. It's not great, I'd like him to play against Freiburg, but as things stand today that won't be possible.”
Kane's Crucial Role and Season Performance
Kane's importance to both Bayern Munich and England cannot be overstated. With 78 international goals, he is a pivotal figure for Thomas Tuchel's side, and England's lack of sharpness in recent matches has underscored the need to keep him fit and in form ahead of the summer's World Cup. This season, Kane has delivered an impressive tally of 53 goals for club and country across 45 appearances, including 10 in the Champions League.
Bayern Munich, currently holding a nine-point lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, are eagerly hoping for a swift recovery. The German champions are scheduled to face Real Madrid at the Bernabeu Stadium in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, with the return leg in Munich following eight days later.
