Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler have agreed that the conditions at the PGA Championship have been exceptionally difficult. McIlroy, who carded a second-round 67, concurred with Scheffler's assessment that the course set-up, combined with cold weather and strong winds, has made scoring a challenge.
McIlroy described the conditions as 'hard' and noted that the hole locations were particularly tough. 'It's been hard to make birdies out there because of the wind and the hole locations. They have really tried to protect the course the first couple of days,' he said.
Scheffler, who posted a one-over round on Friday, called the pin placements 'absurd' and described the 14th hole as having 'the hardest pin that I've seen in a long time'. Both players emphasised the need for patience and smart play under the challenging circumstances.
Despite the difficulties, McIlroy remained optimistic about his chances, stating, 'At five back I do feel like I'm right in the tournament.' Scheffler echoed that sentiment, noting that good shots were not always rewarded and that some factors were beyond the players' control.
