Noel Callow, a 50-year-old jockey with over 2,000 wins in Australia, has been disqualified for 10 months after filming himself using racist language. The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission stewards found him guilty of conduct detrimental to the image of racing.
The incident occurred in Darwin, where Callow recorded a video of himself saying “you c***s get about” and repeatedly telling a member of the public “give us a look at your bottom teeth”. The video was shared on WhatsApp and later circulated more widely.
Callow pleaded guilty and expressed remorse, stating he had struggled to find work due to the previous conduct matter and had suffered mentally. The stewards noted the deliberate nature of the offence, which they said took it to a higher level of culpability than earlier impulsive videos.
This is Callow’s second ban in recent months. In June last year, he was suspended for two months after a fight with another jockey, and in August he was disqualified for 10 months over a previous racist video. The latest ban runs until August 2026.
The stewards emphasised that racist conduct, whether on or off the racecourse, will not be tolerated, and that a meaningful penalty was necessary for deterrence. They accepted Callow’s remorse and efforts to educate himself as mitigating factors.
