England Lioness Jill Scott has spoken out about the viral moment she was caught swearing at a rival player during the Euro 2022 final, as she prepares to enter the jungle for ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
The 35-year-old midfielder, who announced her retirement from football shortly after England's historic victory, said the incident was a 'misconception' about her character. 'I don't like swearing,' Scott told Metro.co.uk, 'but I think at the same time I'm hoping to show my competitive and passionate side whenever I was playing football.'
Scott, who earned 161 caps for England and featured in 10 major international tournaments, described the moment as a display of her 'passion' and desire to win. 'I would have done absolutely anything that day to win that game,' she said. 'Maybe I did lose it for a short second but at the end of the day we won so hopefully people can forgive that.'
The footballer is one of 12 celebrities heading into the Australian jungle for the new series, which begins on Sunday 6 November at 9pm on ITV. The show returns to Australia for the first time since the pandemic, after two series were filmed at Gwrych Castle in Wales.
Scott retired from football in August with a social media post reading: 'Right, we're not crying. I promised myself. I'm retiring from football. And I'm leaving with a gold medal swinging from my neck.'
