A 29-year-old international footballer has been arrested on suspicion of assault and affray following an incident in London's West End. The player, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was detained at the scene in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Metropolitan Police officers were called to Wardour Street, W1 at 00:47 on December 6 after receiving reports of an assault. A man was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.
The footballer was arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault and one count of affray. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.
A Met Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest and said the victim's injuries were not serious. The force is continuing its enquiries into the incident.
