Tyler Morton, the 21-year-old Liverpool midfielder currently on loan at Hull City, has spoken about his Premier League debut and his ambitions to break into the first team at Anfield. Morton, who won the EFL Young Player of the Month award for November, has been a key figure in Hull's push for promotion from the Championship.
Morton made his Liverpool debut as a substitute in a 4-0 win over Arsenal in November 2021. The match gained notoriety after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was shown in the documentary 'All Or Nothing: Arsenal' preparing his players by playing crowd noise from Anfield through loudspeakers at the training ground. Morton described the experience as "surreal" and praised Arteta's approach as "class".
Reflecting on his debut, Morton said: "You never forget your Premier League debut. I came on for the last 10 minutes or so and it was a surreal feeling because I had been dreaming about the opportunity for so long." The Wallasey-born midfielder added that the positive atmosphere at Anfield made the moment special.
Morton's loan at Hull City follows a similar spell at Blackburn Rovers last season. He emphasised the importance of gaining regular game time, stating: "It's massively important for young players to get game time on the pitch. My comfort zone would be sitting on a bench every week and living the Premier League life, but it's important to get out of your comfort zone and test yourself."
With Hull currently among the promotion contenders in the Championship, Morton is focused on helping the Tigers succeed while keeping an eye on Liverpool's title challenge. He noted that seeing fellow academy graduate Harvey Elliott succeed at Anfield provides inspiration for young players.
